Mexico’s First Heatwave and a Wild Weather Ride

Hey there! So, let me tell you about this crazy weather Mexico’s been having lately. It all kicked off on Sunday, April 14th. Picture this: Mexico City hit a scorching 32.9°C, smashing the old record of 32°C from way back in 1998. Pretty intense, right?

What’s Cooking?

Why so hot? Well, it’s all thanks to these anticyclonic conditions hanging around. Basically, they stop clouds from forming, so the sun just beats down, making it hotter and hotter. This went on all week, and temperatures soared between 35-45°C across most of the country. Imagine walking outside and feeling like you’re in an oven!

A Cool Change

But wait, it didn’t stay that way for long. By Sunday night into Monday, things took a wild turn. A cold front swooped in, bringing much cooler air. Suddenly, it felt more like early spring than summer. It also brought rain and wind – a real change of pace!

Stormy South

In the southeastern parts of Mexico, that cold front brought more than just cool air. It triggered a prefrontal trough, leading to heavy rain and thunderstorms on Monday. We’re talking lightning, hail, and maybe even some tornadoes. It was like nature decided to throw a party, and everyone was invited!

Windy North

Up in the northeast, that same front caused strong winds and high waves. It got so wild that there was a risk of local flooding and even landslides in some spots. It’s like Mother Nature couldn’t make up her mind!

China’s Torrential Downpours

Meanwhile, over in southern China, things were equally dramatic. They’ve been dealing with non-stop rain, causing major flooding, especially in Guangdong province. It rained so hard on Saturday – like, 12 hours straight! The government even issued flood warnings for the Beijiang basin. By Sunday morning, towns were underwater, and power and communication lines were down. And guess what? More rain was on the way!

Chilly Europe

On the other side of the world, Europe was in for a cold snap. Temperatures in places like Germany, Italy, France, and the Baltic states were set to be 7-10°C below average. Brr! But don’t worry, by the weekend, things were expected to warm up again.

Stay Safe, Stay Informed

So, there you have it. Whether you’re in Mexico, China, or Europe, it’s been a rollercoaster of weather changes. Remember to stay safe and keep an eye on the forecasts. Weather can be pretty unpredictable, but being prepared makes all the difference!

Stay cool (or warm, depending on where you are), and until next time, take care!
